Ncaa Football: Week 10 Recap
November 3, 2023- Psa Grading

The game. It has come and gone and it was a beauty. It was a game reminding us of days gone by, when teams lined up and smacked each other around playing tough defense, ran the ball with authority, and tried to limit mistakes. The result was a 9-6 OT win for No. 1-ranked LSU as Drew Alleman s 25-yard field goal proved to be the difference. In the end it would be the team that made the most mistakes that got beat. Alabama missed four field goals and threw an interception at the goal line. The game was about as even as you can get from total yards, time of possession, number of first downs, and more. The difference was the Tigers special teams (see Freak article about the importance of special teams) which connected on all three of its field goal attempts. Rematch? Maybe, but it s too early to speculate.
Ahh, the Big Ten. What a day. Northwestern travels to Nebraska and beats the Huskers, 28-25, and Iowa takes down Michigan at home, 24-16, to allow Michigan State control of the driver s seat once again in the Legends Division. Oh, and the Spartans needed a 35-yard run by Le Veon Bell with 10:58 to go to beat Minnesota (2-7).
And the Big East. Cincinnati, 7-1 after a 26-23 win over Pittsburgh, will most likely be the BCS representative from the mediocre league. From a league standpoint, the competition is great. Rutgers moved to 6-3 by defeating once-mighty South Florida, 20-17, on an overtime field goal. Syracuse, which looked to be vastly improved from recent years, fell to 5-4 losing to UConn, 28-21, and Louisville, the league s hottest team right now, beat perennial Big East power West Virginia, 38-35.
Once again as we move to the final weeks of the season, the Big East is still up for grabs. Cincy is still the frontrunner, but still has West Virginia and Rutgers on the schedule. Louisville has Pitt, UConn, and South Florida left. These final three weeks will determine who will be the BCS representative.
Big East Standings
TEAM CONF OVERALL
* Cincinnati 3-0 7-1
Louisville 3-1 5-4
* Rutgers 3-2 6-3
* West Va. 2-2 6-3
Pittsburgh 2-2 4-5
Connecticut 2-2 4-5
Syracuse 1-3 5-4
South Florida 0-4 4-4
The game of the day might have been Oklahoma State taking on Kansas State. The Wildcats have had a tough two weeks taking on both Oklahoma schools in consecutive weeks. The Cowboys prevailed, 52-45, as KSU QB Collin Klein overthrew his intended receiver in the end zone as time expired. If you long for the anti-LSU/Bama game, watch this on replay on ESPN this week. It was a beauty, too. And for fans of the Big 12, Baylor got back on track surviving a late Missouri rally to hold off the Tigers, 42-39. Robert Griffin III threw for 406 yards and three TDs as the Bears racked up 697 yards of total offense.
All this sets up another exciting week of college football as the MAC will be in full swing starting this Tuesday and the ESPN Thursday night game should be interesting as Virginia Tech travels to Georgia Tech. The winner will most likely be the Coastal Division representative in the ACC Championship game.
